I have never actually been to Australia, so my knowledge of this burger comes completely from the internet. The internet would have you believe that this is what everyone in Australia orders on their burgers. There are a lot of toppings on this thing and it is super messy. I love inviting people over to my house and then forcing them to eat foods that can’t be eaten while looking cool. Then I usually ask them a question right as they’re taking a gigantic bite. Fun times.

This burger, to me, borderlines on too much going on, but all the toppings do have a certain amount of synergy and it’s an experience for sure.

Are there any Aussies out there who can tell me if this is really what everyone eats?

Aussie Burger

Onion Bun

Red Onion

Beef Patty

Cheddar Cheese

Grilled pineapple

Sriracha Mayo (here is a recipe: put some mayo in a bowl. Squirt some sriracha in. Mix it up. Taste. Continue the process until it’s your desired spice level) Why don’t we just put on straight sriracha? some of you might ask. Burgers actually need that layer of fat on them to keep the juices from soggifying the bun.

Pickled Beets (they come in a can from the veggie aisle. or you could make your own.)

Fried Egg (with a runny yolk everyone. all fried eggs on burgers need a runny yolk.)

Lettuce

Bacon (my friend whose burger we photographed opted for no bacon.)

TaDa!

I’ve also had this with BBQ sauce instead of the sriracha mayo and it was excellent that way too.

Now go ahead and make these, then read some Liane Moriarty and watch some Crocodile Dundee or Strictly Ballroom. And listen to AC/DC. You can make Lamingtons for dessert. Sounds like a fun night. You should invite me when you do it. 🙂
